Child Development Specialist

Purpose:  The purpose of this position is the ensure developmentally appropriate services for children and families birth-5 years in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, local, state and national standards and YWCA policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Provide guidance, training and technical support and ongoing feedback to classroom staff to ensure quality educational services for children and families

Assure quality early care and education services through evaluating and monitoring service delivery on a consistent basis each month to maintain compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act and state, national and local standards

Assist classroom staff in creating a developmentally appropriate learning environment, implementing the curriculum, classroom management, delivery of education services, preparing weekly lesson plans and involving parents in their child's learning experience

Assist classroom staff identifying children with potential delays through follow up observations through internal referral, tracking the status of referrals and following up on interventions

Create trainings that address the needs identified through data or school readiness goals

Ensure accurate, timely and quality record keeping of education and early care services

Develop and assist with the implementing policies and procedures that facilitate the implementation of the Education and Early Child Development and Special Services Operating Plans

Job Requirements 

Expert knowledge of Early Childhood and Child development of children birth through age five; child development, quality environments, classroom management, etc.

Developmentally appropriate practices for birth 5 years

Relationship based curriculum development and implementation with birth 5 years

Knowledge of accreditation and licensing standards

Organizational and Problem solving skills

Ability to coach classroom teachers around child development, CLASS and classroom management

Ability to work well in a team setting

Effective verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills, computer skills and attention to detail

Education Requirements

Four-year college education in ECE/Child Development (Birth 5 years)

Graduate level education preferred
